A Study on Serum Lipid in Patients with Cerebrovascular Accident and Ischemic Heart Disease

Abstract
This study was undertaken to evaluate the values of serum lipid in patients with cerebrovascular accident and ischemic heart disease. Serum lipid and lipoprotein were measured in 103 patients with hypertension, 93 patients with cerebral hemorrhage, 71 patients with cerebral infarction and 54 patients with ischemic heart disease. The results were compared with 86 controls.
1. In control, the mean values of serum cholesterol in male and in female were 156. 0¡¾35.2 mg/dl and 153.6¡¾35.9mg/dl, respectively. The mean values of serum HDL-C were 44.5 ¡¾13.7mg/dl in male and 48. 6¡¾13.2mg/dl in female.
2. In patients with hypertension, serum cholesterol, triglyceride, total lipid, VLDL-C and LDL-C were increased significantly and cholesterol/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio were also increased significantly.
3. In patients with cerebral hemorrhage, serum cholesterol, total lipid, HDL-C and LDL-C were elevated but cholesterol/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio were normal.
4. In patient with cerebral infarction, serum cholesterol and total lipid were increased. In male patients, both LDL-C and HDL-C were elevated and in female patients, only HDL-C was increased. The ratio of cholesterol/HDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C were significantly increased in female patients.
5. In patients with ischemic heart disease, serum cholesterol and total lipid were increased and LDL-C and LDL-C/HDL-C ratio also.
